“It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”  Lamentations 3:22, 23 AV

A ray of light–in this most improbable of books!  Five chapters of lament, five poems picturing a demolished city–devastation, rubble, burned-over, death everywhere, unimaginable–think bombed out German cities of mid-twentieth century.  And right there in the middle of mourning–faith that refuses to quit.  What’s seen is not always the end scene.  Today is a new day.  Jehovah still rules.  What meets the sense would obscure the reality.  God rules–no matter what it looks like–and He extends renewal–every day!

We like to make resolutions at year’s onset.  But God gives us newness every day.  Here’s how the Apostle saw it:

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.” (II Cor. 4:16-18a)

Entering the kingdom of our Lord is a new birth, a starting all over.  It’s a clean slate on the heavenly books.  Sin stains washed away.  Garments of white issued.  Celebrations among the angels because you are a new creature in Jesus.  That’s not the end though; it’s the beginning.  It begins a life where new stains get washed away.  The power of the blood of Jesus never wanes.  As you walk in the light as He is in the light the cleansing just keeps going on. (I Jn. 1:7)  Every day!  His blessings are new every morning!

What to do then?  Love Him.  Thank Him.  Serve Him.  Praise Him.  Worship Him.  Look through the haze of here to see blessings of every day.  Commit to Him as He grows His own image in you.  Share Him.
