THINGS KNOWN AND UNKNOWN

December 25, 2016

Text: But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 6:4-7

There any many things I do not understand about this babe. But those things I must learn about this child as he grows if I want to know Him and His Father, and receive the inheritance He promises. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.Or If you know me, you will know my Father also, or If you have known me, you will know my Father also John 14:6-7

I do not understand why that this child would have to suffer such violence, injustice and a horrid death. He was despised and rejected by men,  a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. ” Isaiah 53:3-6

I do not understand  why a powerful king hated this child so much that he murdered hundreds of innocent two year olds for politics and spite. Nevertheless, the child was much more than ever supposed by most. Perhaps, Herod had reason to be wary.  “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:6

I do not understand why Jesus’ birthplace Bethlehem was deemed to be so  despised! “Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” John 2:     They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet.” Matthew 2:5

This beautiful birthday event is one of the most recognizable readings in the Bible. Bible scholars are not alone in their appreciations of the beautiful story; but this is also a time of remembering the detail that make familial ties  a time of love and peace. Holiday Season.

However, this event is an OVERTURE into the life of Jesus more than anything else. It stirs the right feelings and points to the essence of the Love of Jesus.  It should be the pinnacle to give to you the focus and the desire to walk with the Man who walked away from these humble beginning to be the Savior of the world.

There is a lot I don’t know, but I KNOW THIS:

“For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon4 his shoulder,

and his name shall be called5

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace

there will be no end,

on the throne of David and over his kingdom,

to establish it and to uphold it

with justice and with righteousness

from this time forth and forevermore.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”       Isaiah 9:6-7
